Trouser Week!

This week at Honest Folk we’re celebrating (and embracing) masculinity! We have three great pairs of trousers in stock. We don’t think women should be confined to being girly and feminine, sometimes we deserve to take stand and show that we do in fact WEAR THE PANTS.

Check out: http://tinyurl.com/honestfolk-pants for a vintage pair of Ralph Lauren’s, a gorgeous light pink pair of slacks and a deep red stirruped pair!

INSPIRATION: PREP SCHOOL

My highschool had the ugliest school uniform ever, it was maroon and green and involved tartan. It made us look like Christmas trees and not Christmassy in good way, not in the way Brad Pitt says to Angelina Jolie in Mr. and Mrs. Smith where he’s reminiscing the first time he saw her and she reminded him of Christmas morning. Not like that.

Anyway, once we got to Year 12 though, we were allowed to wear casual dress which was like FREEDOMMMMM! Funnily enough, I ended up not straying too far from the schoolgirl look and still rocked the pleated skirt, prim buttoned up shirt look well until I graduated and it was all because of one little television show.

Gossip Girl. The show that had women of all ages scouring their wardrobes for the headbands they once wore as a girl! Who knew five years ago (Yes! It’s been that long!) that that a teen drama would spark such a fashion craze. Yup, thanks to Blair Waldorf the prim and proper look had a revival noone saw coming and is now here to stay!

For some ladylike inspiration, check out a couple of our favourite Melbournian bloggers KisforKani and LeBlogdeSushi, who pair cute flouncy skirts, bows and peter pan collared blouses like it ain’t no thang.

We have a couple sweet pieces in store this week to have you reminiscing about skipping class and writing names of crushes on your binders :P

  1. Baby blue ascot blouse
  2. Cream double breasted coat
  3. Pastel blue princess coat
  4. Velvet burnout high waisted skirt

Love the high waists and two piece looks!

INSPIRATION - GREEN POWER

The 80’s were all about bright and power suits (and disco gear, oh my lordy, do we love disco/flashdance gear). Green is a fantastically underrated bright colour! Most people opt for the usual red/yellow/purple but we do like standing out from the crowd and what better than with a emerald green blazer!

Marc Jacobs (albeit a few years ago) dedicated a whole collection to crazy 80’s brights and dramatic cuts and even included a gorgeous green coat. Our wool blazer is pretty much the same colour, a sharper cut and definitely more affordable.

Are you GREEN with envy? - hohoho, we went there!

INSPIRATION: GATSBY/LONG FLORAL DRESSES

Long floral dresses are seriously undervalued! Glad to see that Gucci, Valentino and Carolina Herrera all have some gorgeous floral dresses in their Resort 2013 collections! Hopefully this will bring the look back! Just because it isn’t Resort for us, doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the ride. Every girl needs a longer floral dress and we have two in store for you! Perfect for a summer picnic, or a high tea lunch (or we dare say, a little date?!), a midi/maxi length floral dress brings the brightness of spring and summer with us all year round! No frumpy thick dresses… nope! It’s all about dainty gowns that would seduce Gatsby into admitting to something he didn’t do or to convince Mr Darcy we’re all his!!
