Trouser Week!

This week at Honest Folk we’re celebrating (and embracing) masculinity! We have three great pairs of trousers in stock. We don’t think women should be confined to being girly and feminine, sometimes we deserve to take stand and show that we do in fact WEAR THE PANTS.

Check out: http://tinyurl.com/honestfolk-pants for a vintage pair of Ralph Lauren’s, a gorgeous light pink pair of slacks and a deep red stirruped pair!

INSPIRATION: PREP SCHOOL

My highschool had the ugliest school uniform ever, it was maroon and green and involved tartan. It made us look like Christmas trees and not Christmassy in good way, not in the way Brad Pitt says to Angelina Jolie in Mr. and Mrs. Smith where he’s reminiscing the first time he saw her and she reminded him of Christmas morning. Not like that.

Anyway, once we got to Year 12 though, we were allowed to wear casual dress which was like FREEDOMMMMM! Funnily enough, I ended up not straying too far from the schoolgirl look and still rocked the pleated skirt, prim buttoned up shirt look well until I graduated and it was all because of one little television show.

Gossip Girl. The show that had women of all ages scouring their wardrobes for the headbands they once wore as a girl! Who knew five years ago (Yes! It’s been that long!) that that a teen drama would spark such a fashion craze. Yup, thanks to Blair Waldorf the prim and proper look had a revival noone saw coming and is now here to stay!

For some ladylike inspiration, check out a couple of our favourite Melbournian bloggers KisforKani and LeBlogdeSushi, who pair cute flouncy skirts, bows and peter pan collared blouses like it ain’t no thang.

We have a couple sweet pieces in store this week to have you reminiscing about skipping class and writing names of crushes on your binders :P

  1. Baby blue ascot blouse
  2. Cream double breasted coat
  3. Pastel blue princess coat
  4. Velvet burnout high waisted skirt

INSPIRATION: Oversized Coats

We’ve been complaining about the cold for weeks, but Winter (that bitch!) still won’t let up :( I wish I was a grizzly bear and could hunker down in a warm, dark cave and hibernate for a few months (with a television and rations of snacks) until this freezing weather goes away.

The second best thing is of course a second skin, a coat that fits like a cocoon, a coat that boasts deep pockets to hide gloved hands and extra change to buy hot coffees to hold close to our faces to keep warm. We’re all about outerwear with generous proportions, taking inspiration from sartorial shapes from the 1980s and Isabel Marant’s winter collections.

We have a sweeping camel wool number and a rich maroon concoction for you to hibernate in this Winter!

INSPIRATION: GATSBY/LONG FLORAL DRESSES

Long floral dresses are seriously undervalued! Glad to see that Gucci, Valentino and Carolina Herrera all have some gorgeous floral dresses in their Resort 2013 collections! Hopefully this will bring the look back! Just because it isn’t Resort for us, doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the ride. Every girl needs a longer floral dress and we have two in store for you! Perfect for a summer picnic, or a high tea lunch (or we dare say, a little date?!), a midi/maxi length floral dress brings the brightness of spring and summer with us all year round! No frumpy thick dresses… nope! It’s all about dainty gowns that would seduce Gatsby into admitting to something he didn’t do or to convince Mr Darcy we’re all his!!

HAPPY TWO MONTHS HONEST FOLK! :D New stock for this week is now up, one of our favourite weeks yet! Bid away!

INSPIRATION: ANORAKS

We’re kind of crazy about anoraks and parkas over here at Honest Folk and this week we’re bringing you guys three great colours and styles! The sporty luxe trend has been around for a couple years now and there’s no question why – between juggling school/work/social life, you need garments that’ll carry you (and all your things!) everywhere at anytime. Anoraks are great for utility, heaps of pockets to jam things into, drawstrings and fasteners to change up the style and fit, detachable hoods to protect you from the seasons and they look great with an outfit day or night.

We have a fabulous black parka (that would look divine over a little sequin dress), a navy number (because who doesn’t love navy?) and a purple anorak with gorgeous plaid lining for those with a little flare!

INSPIRATION - Timeless LOVER pieces like the Madeleine coat.

“We love our bread, we love our butter.
But most of all, we love each other!”

The best line to a wonderful TV show, we grew up on - Madeleine! Coincidentally that is also the name of the coveted Lover coat that is similar to the light wool check coat we have in stock at the moment.

Though our version doesn’t have a hood or a capelet, this jacket would be perfect for the trans-season when it’s not too cold yet. There are big pockets to hide our hands and big buttons to keep the cold out away from our chest. The fit is wonderfully loose enough to accommodate a sweater for extra warmth to turn this into a full winter coat.

Don’t miss out! Bid at our store! xx

Oversized boyfriend sweaters, a fashionista’s staple ;) We’ve got a fab oatmeal/beige number in store now!

Inspiration: Minty fresh!

Spearmint is the unexpected ‘it’ colour this season! A little bit quirkier than your average macaron pastel hue, this icy green was featured in the latest Acne Winter collection and seen on some of our fave Australian bloggers, Margaret at Shine By Three and Jess at Tuula Vintage. We’ve got a darling checkerboard knit mint sweater in store this week with adorable bell sleeves. Pair with neutral tones to make it really pop!

REJOICE! MORE SHIPPING OPTIONS!
Hai guys!
Every week we have a few people ask us about pick ups within Melbourne. As this is just a side project for the both of us, we sadly have to reject all requests! To help out, we’ve discounted the shipping!
Please check the table above or at the FAQ page of our Tumblr for more information! The cheapest shipping available is $7 regular postage which will fit most tops/bottoms. Unfortunately bulkier items will need a larger postage satchel! The most expensive shipping option holds 5 kg which would be two jumpers/sweaters/coats - this costs $15 for regular postage and $22 for express postage!
Please let us know if you would prefer express postage because we’ll be sending regular postage by default from now on!

We love Scandinavian designs - such simplicity and beauty. Amie and I both adore clogs and between our close friends, 7 of us have the same Funkis clog in different colours. While Cheap Monday is fantastic for cheap and great designs (has anyone between to Sweden and experience their 75% off sales? Lucy has and apparently it’s quite the amazing), other brands such as Wood Wood have great classic clean cuts that are quintessentially Scandinavian. We fell in love with this almond coloured mandarin collar button up when we were perusing Fat in Melbourne. The long line and the simple collar, it’s just beautiful. But like most of our customers, we can’t afford to buy expensive wonderfully designed clothes all the time; our alternative? A beige and grey striped cotton mandarin collar shirt - the ultimate thrift version of the Wood Wood shirt. Pick it up in store today.

YER A HIPSTER, HARRY!

I’m a what?

Crazy 80’s novelty sweaters are my catnip. I love this kitschy stars and moon print and its bright primary colours. With baggy jumpers like this, I prefer to balance the proportion and team it with shorts over stockings. You could also go for a floor length, sweeping maxi skirt for something a bit more dramatic. Beanies and a silly face are optional. Hop over to the Honest Folk store for more wicked knitwear!
